One of India’s most appealing qualities is its unity in diversity, where many religions and cultures co-exist in harmony. The fifth-largest religion in the world, Sikhism, is one of the many faiths practiced in India. On Tuesday, November 8th 2022 this year, Guru Nanak Jayanti, a celebration honoring the first Sikh guru, will take place. The founding of Sikhism was made possible by the spiritual teachings of Guru Nanak, the first Sikh Guru. A spiritual visionary, Guru Nanak travelled throughout Southern Asia and the Middle East to spread his ideals.
The birthdays of the 10 Sikh gurus are the focus of celebrations in the Sikh faith. The Sikhs’ religious views were molded by these gurus. Their birthdays, called “Gurpurab,” are times for communal celebration and devotion. The celebration of Guru Nanak Jayanti includes devotional processions, hymns, free treats, martial arts (‘Gatka’), and community service.
