Keeping you and your family comfortable during your flight

The thought of travelling back home to India brings lots of excitement – seeing all your friends and family, visiting all your favourite places and of course eating lots of tasty, home-cooked food! However, for some, the idea of sitting on a long flight for over 10 hours can be difficult – that’s why we’ve prepared a handy guide on how to stay comfortable during your flight home. Follow our tips and tricks on how to keep you and your family relaxed and content during your long trip and keep you energized for the adventures to come back home!

Nutrition

Throughout your entire trip, it’s highly advised to stay hydrated – even before you board the plane! Experts recommend drinking 1-2 litres of water the day before, or even better, the morning of your flight. This can be a tall order for some – but studies have shown that increasing your water intake by even just a glass a day leading up to your flight can lead to better hydration and a more comfortable experience. While flying, be sure to keep your water intake up, and try to drink 2-3 litres of water over the duration of your flight. This might lead to a lot of bathroom breaks, sure, but being sufficiently hydrated can help combat common flight-induced ailments such as headaches, dizziness and lethargy.
It’s also highly recommended to eat as many fresh fruit and vegetables as you can in the days leading up to your trip as these can be limited during your flight, and will add a much-needed boost to your immune system, ensuring that you stay healthy on your journey. Bringing your own snacks along for the flight is a great idea – just stay away from fruits, vegetables and other organic matter as these will be confiscated at customs. Protein bars and mixed nuts are a great option, providing you with nutrients that can strengthen your immune system even more. Taking vitamin C supplements is also a great idea to give your immune system another boost!

Exercise and Comfort

Exercise is vital for a healthy lifestyle – not only is it great for your body on land, but in the air too! It’s highly recommended to get in some light workouts before your flight, even just stretching at the boarding gate can make a huge difference in combatting stiffness and discomfort. During your flight, be sure to move around the cabin when you can, stretching your arms and legs and walking around can help combat swelling and discomfort. Wearing comfortable and stretchy, breathable clothes is also a must – temperatures can sometimes fluctuate during air travel, so bringing a cozy sweater that is easy to take off is highly recommended. In addition, packing every-day toiletries and a change of clothes in your carry on makes all the difference and ensures you’ll stay feeling fresh and clean. For night flights, it’s a great idea to bring a neck pillow, noise cancelling headphones and an eye mask to help keep yourself as comfortable as possible for a restful sleep.

Tips for travelling with kids

For those of you travelling with little ones, it’s best to be fully prepared for any little hiccups that may happen along the way. While booking your trip, try to secure seats near the toilets and window seats – the latter being great for keeping kids soothed and calm by the passing view. For those travelling with infants, front row seats are recommended to ensure space for a bassinet, which can be requested in advance with your airline. The timing of your flight is also essential to keep in mind – for kids who are easy sleepers, night flights are a must to ensure your little ones stay rested and comfortable. For the fussier and lighter sleepers, a day flight will ensure that your fellow passengers aren’t kept awake. Making sure to bring enough supplies, such as medicine, food, spare clothing, entertainment and comfort items is essential. It can be difficult for children to stay entertained during a flight, so a great tip is to bring along something small and exciting for them, such as a new toy or activity book, that you can bring out to surprise and delight them and most importantly, distract them from any possible impending tantrums. Additionally, headphones provided by airlines are often too large for children, so if possible, bring along your own pair of kid-sized headphones, preferably volume-limiting, to ensure your child can safely enjoy any provided in-flight entertainment or games.

Keeping healthy

Airplane carriages can often become a breeding ground for bacteria – so it’s highly recommended to bring a set of anti-bacterial wipes and give anything you may frequently use or touch a thorough wiping to minimize the chances of getting sick. Additionally, it is recommended that you wear a mask and maintain distance with other passengers whenever you can, and stay up to date with any recommended vaccines before your trip.

Staying safe when travelling with family

It’s always a good idea to check the latest travel tips and advice when planning a trip with your family, now more than ever. Visiting home in India is not only for fun, but also reuniting with your beloved family members. Staying conscious of the latest restrictions and requirements for international travel is essential to keeping you and your loved ones safe and healthy. Find out the best ways to keep you and your family safe while travelling and protect your loved ones back home.

Covid-19 remains an enduring global health pandemic

Despite the rising numbers of fully-vaccinated citizens across the world, many countries are still suffering from sudden Covid-19 outbreaks. Whether travelling alone or with family, you should always be aware of the infection rates of Covid-19 in your destination and consider the implications this may have on you and your travel companions. Whether domestic or international, all travel carries a potential risk of being exposed to, spreading or contracting Covid-19, especially if you’re travelling to a high-risk destination. As a conscious traveller, it’s essential to be mindful of not only yours but your loved one’s health and should not make travel plans if any of your family members are at high risk of severe illness.

How you should prepare to travel safely as a family together

Before travelling to India, it’s vital to check all requirements that you and your family may need to fulfil. This can include travel restrictions, vaccination status, quarantining and Covid-19 testing requirements in both your local area and expected destinations you’re planning to visit. Before and during your trip it’s highly advised to check the local government and Ministry of Health websites to stay updated on the latest information and changes that may disrupt your travel plans. In addition, checking ahead on options for healthcare, transportation, stopovers, food and accommodation at your planned destination would further ensure your family’s comfort and wellbeing during your trip, and ensure your journey is as hassle-free as possible.

If you are travelling with your family, here are some additional steps you can take to ensure a smooth journey:

  • Make sure that you and your family are up-to-date with routine vaccination requirements and testings, including MMR vaccine, seasonal flu vaccines and RT-PCR tests before your departure
  • Ensure that you and your family members passports are up-to-date and at least valid for the next 6 months from the date you plan to return home
  • Be careful to bring enough medication for the entire journey for any family members who may have health issues
  • Select the safest mode of transportation in advance to mitigate the risk of exposure to Covid-19 and other illnesses and limiting exposure to crowded public places, as well as frequently sanitizing your hands and maintaining social distancing where possible
  • Avoid travel during the peak times and congested routes wherever possible
  • Be mindful to gather in ventilated, open spaces while visiting friends or family, even for mass gatherings including weddings, pooja ceremonies or family events
  • Wear a mask while travelling or visiting high-risk locations
  • Follow the local public health advice and monitor symptoms if you or your family members become unwell before travelling

Being a conscious traveller and practicing good hygiene ensures the safety of both your family and the general public, and helps minimise the risk of contracting and spreading the Covid-19 virus around you.

Departing from Australia

If you’re travelling from Australia to India, it’s important to understand the risk of contracting Covid-19 in your destination. Therefore, some travel insurers currently offer limited cover for Covid-19. However, all passengers (including children) travelling to India must submit the ’Air-Suvidha Self-Declaration Form’ and present a full vaccination certificate or negative Covid-19 (RT-PCR) test report prior to departure.

Departing from India

Since July, it is no longer required for international travellers to fill the Digital Passenger Declaration or Maritime Travel Declaration to enter Australia. Additionally, travellers are no longer required to provide their vaccination status to enter the country. However, depending on your transport providers and stopovers along the way, there may be additional protocols to follow and safety concerns, making it essential to check and confirm the local requirements of all your travel destinations in advance before arriving at check-in.

Over 15 years as your trustworthy travel partner, at Gaura Travel our primary goal is to reunite you with your family and loved ones and giving you a smooth and hassle-free journey to your dream destination.

See you on your next journey with us!

Importance of being with your family

India is home to billions of people around the world, enriched by incredible cultural diversity with an array of ethnicities, languages and religions. All Indians have their own values and belief systems, but one that we can all share is the importance of family and the powerful role they play in our lives.

What is the impact of being with family?

Generally, Indians place a high value on unity and harmony within their peers, having a strong tie to their families, relatives, friends and community. Having a unified family support system to rely on is a foundation of Indian culture, which is why human touch plays such a powerful role in Indian society, not only for reassurance, but also to emphasize empathy, love and compassion towards each other.

When you live far away from your family you may experience numerous emotions; sadness, loneliness and dejection to name a few. It has been proven that human touch can effectively make a difference on how we feel both physically and emotionally. As a family-tied society, it’s evident that individuals who are able to be physically present and spend time with their families have noticed significant boosts to their overall health and mental wellbeing.

Importance of staying close to your family

Creating precious memories with your family and spending quality time with them is vital to the human experience, and provides numerous benefits to your wellbeing and state of mind. As the old saying goes, there is not an investment wiser than spending quality time with family. In other words, there’s no one else who knows you better than your family and they are one of the strongest sources of comfort, safety and love that you can ever find.

A family bond is a magical spell that soothes you at your worst and celebrates you at your best. A family unit provides you with a group of people who will catch you when you fall, guide and motivate you when you are lost, restore hope when it’s waning and most importantly hold you close and comfort you when you want to cry. A warm hug on a cold day, a meaningful pat on the back for a job well done or feeling your Mom’s hand tenderly squeeze your shoulder; these are just some of the ways that human touch can make an impact on your mood and confidence, and help you feel more connected with your loved ones.

The link an Indian person has with their extended family overseas is often much closer and stronger than most people in Western societies. Despite living abroad, they often have closer ties to their family remaining in India, which shows that no matter the distance, the strong bond between Indian family members can never be weakened.

Reuniting your families together

Our team at Gaura Travel knows how important your family is to you, especially when living abroad in the land Down Under. Over our 15 years of operation, we have been committed to providing you with a smooth and stress-fee journey to reunite with your family back in India. Our top priority is to fulfil our obligation and duty towards you and provide you with the best experience imaginable. See you on your next journey!

What you need to know when travelling with your kids?

Visiting your family back in India or travelling to another country as tourists can be an amazing experience, especially if you’re bringing your kids along. Visiting grandparents, relatives and friends overseas is always a treat to kids and leaves them counting the dates in excitement. As parents who are travelling with under 18s, it’s vital to plan your journey ahead to ensure that your children are best prepared and travel safe within the requirements.

If you are travelling with children;

  • Research what kind of childcare facilities you intend to use for your kids during your trip
  • Before you leave the country with your children, make sure to get official consent from an authorised person or institution with all entry requirements documents to provide in other countries.
  • Check in advance with your airline regarding the children baggage restrictions, health and safety standards to confirm their regulations before your journey.
  • Learn the laws and local attitudes around discipline and taking care of your children during the travel without affecting the public.
  • Plan and get your children’s health check-ups and medication at least 8 weeks before your journey.
  • If your child is travelling without parents, with a guardian or just with a single parent, you have to follow the representative airlines’ rules and protocols for child’s travel.

Departing from Australia

In most cases, your child can depart from Australia with just their passport and appropriate visa. Most airlines have its own in-flight protocols and rules for lone youngsters, with the parents or guardians needing to fill out a permission form in advance for the child’s travel. In addition, all those travelling to India including minors must submit the ’Air-Suvidha self-declaration form’ and provide a fully vaccinated certificate or negative Covid-19 (RT-PCR) test report before departure.

According to the current review for India, you may be subjected to sudden Covid-19 restrictions, including local lock downs and curfews within a short notice. Therefore, always be vigilant and check the latest travel updates given by local media. With Gaura Travel, now you can find convenient one-way flights with a single stopover in Singapore with Singapore Airlines or direct flights to India with Qantas Airlines.

Proof of vaccination status is also no longer necessary. However, the rules and regulations in each destination of your stop-overs along the way may vary so checking the local travel requirements in advance is essential for a smooth journey.

This year, passport fees for Indians have increased and a 5-year passport for children under 16 costs $155, with the overseas surcharge for child applicants now being $67. To find more relevant information click here.

Covid-19 vaccine status no longer required for arrivals in Australia

Here’s some good news for you and your family! International travellers keen to travel to Australia will no longer be required to declare their Covid-19 vaccination status.  According to Health Minister Mark Butler, this recent change to the Biosecurity Act will take in place from 12.01am on Wednesday, July 6, based on advice from Chief Medical Officer Paul Kelly.

On the change, Mr. Butler has made the following statement.
‘The Australian government makes decisions on COVID-related issues after considering the latest medical advice, and unvaccinated Australians, as well as certain groups of visa holders, have been able to travel to Australia for some time. We will continue to act on the medical advice as needed.’

However, Covid-19 prerequisites such as wearing facemasks on inbound international flights, and state-based mandates on masks will remain in place for all travellers. However, due to recent negative feedback, Home Affairs Minister Clare O’Neil confirmed that travellers will revert to using paper-based incoming passenger cards over the newly introduced digital passenger declaration app, in an effort to make the arrival process more user-friendly for passengers.

Australia had shut its boarders due to the Covid-19 pandemic from March 2020 until November 2021, only allowing citizens and permanent residents to return home. In February the following year, the border restrictions were further eased to allow international students as well as certain visa holders (including those with a tourist visa) to enter the country.
Despite this, inbound travellers were required to possess a double vaccination certificate to pass through Australian border control under the Biosecurity Act until now.

In addition, Mr. Butler stated that there has been no advice given to Australia’s health ministers to re-instate mask mandates to deal with rising Covid-19 cases, instead it is encouraged for all Australians to get their booster shots if not already acquired.

International travellers left waiting for years to be able to enter Australia will be overjoyed with this recent development, allowing them to travel to their hearts content for years to come.

Thus, it’s high time to travel back to Australia and book your flights now or contact us on 1300 359 463. We’re here for you 24/7, every step of the way!

Major changes – pre-departure tests no longer required

The news we’ve been waiting for
As the restrictions are easing around the world, it is imminent t for travel restrictions to ease as well. The Health Minister, Greg Hunt confirmed a plethora of changes on how COVID-19 is handled in Australia commencing from the 17th of April. Previously, travellers would need to show a negative RAT or PCR test before boarding, even if they were up to date with vaccinations.

Restrictions of cruise ships and anti-price gouging penalties for rapid antigen tests will end as Mr. Hunt confirms he will not be renewing the COVID-19 biosecurity orders. “The country is ready to move on from the emergency declaration made two years and one month ago. I will not be renewing the biosecurity emergency determination,” from Mr Hunt during a press conference on the Gold Coast.

This was much-needed news for travellers who are up to date with vaccinations and want to travel with no extra hurdles to worry about.Mask mandates remain during domestic and international flights and travellers will need to provide proof that they have received 2 doses of the COVID-19 vaccine.

Normalizing Australia
It is great to see changes in restrictions for travellers as many individuals are eagerly waiting to reunite with their families. Australia is on track to move on from the pandemic and is heading towards the normalcy we have all been craving for.

It is important to mention that individuals are advised to be mindful of their health and if any symptoms occur, a RAT or PCR test must be done immediately.Though individuals will have to wait longer before being offered the fourth dose of the vaccine, for vulnerable travellers, the story is different. Including those over the age of 65 and individuals who are immunocompromised are encouraged to receive an additional ‘winter dose’ of the COVID-19 jab.

India is overcoming the challenges of COVID-19

We all went through nearly challenging 2 years with ups and downs, loosing our loved ones and without able to see our families over the period, due to the Covid-19 pandemic. Fortunately, now we can look at the light of end of the darkest period as the shadow of Covid gradually diminishes from the society.

Recently India has reported 97 deaths during the past week, which set to record less than 100 deaths from the Covid-19, a first in almost after 2 years of the pandemic. According to this Sunday’s data from Indian states, they have recorded similar result of death toll lastly on 30th March – 5th April 2020, which about 2 years back before the imposition of total lockdown over the nation.

Since, 31st March 2020, the first daily death toll reduced to single numbers on last Sunday, by just reported 8 Covid losses from across India, which just two states are pending to report its data. However, we can see significant change in fatality rate as both weekly and daily death tolls continue to dip down since earlier from this month.

According to the reported figures of active cases over the period, this week (March 21-27) recorded over 11,400 cases, but lowering to the previous week’s tally of 15,820. After April 20-26,2020 (fresh infections of 10,585), this was the least weekly fresh cases count that India has recorded over the time.

Since the peak of 3rd wave of active cases on 23rd January 2022, it’s progressively declining the current active cases within the country as well as in every state and Union territory of India without exclusion. There are around 15,800 active cases still exist of coronavirus in India. But isn’t it a new hope to conquer this pandemic from us?

After a 2 year wait, India resumes international flights.

This is great news for overseas travellers as they can resume their visits to India. The reopening of international borders has been long-awaited, there has been a pent-up need to travel to India for passengers waiting to see their family and loved ones.

After 2 years of suspended travel, India will reopen its international borders on March 27th, 2022. Travel industry professionals expect flight fares will be much lower than exorbitant bubble charges, but travellers are made aware that plane fares are unlikely to be close to their pre-pandemic prices. It is estimated that with the reopening of Indian international borders, there is a high opportunity for more connectivity/choices between countries, leading to lower fares. The Ukraine conflict will undoubtedly cast its shadow on these expectations.

The aviation minister says “international operations shall be subject to strict adherence to (current) health ministry guidelines’ India’s strict health guidelines had prohibited the international borders from opening in December 2021 but was abruptly cancelled due to the COVID-19 variant Omicron.

COVID-19 Restrictions in India

From February 14, Individuals from 82 approved countries (including the United States, the United Kingdom, Canada, Australia, France, Japan, and Thailand) are no longer required to take a pre-departure test to visit India, however, they must present proof of vaccination. Unvaccinated arrivals will need to provide a negative COVID-19 test taken within 72 hours.

How Russian airspace closure impacts routes to India

Unrestricted travel will give individuals more options to choose from, but the rising fuel costs will increase the overall ticket prices. American Airlines and many other airlines have stopped using Russian airspace to fly to India and making additional stops to refuel. On Monday United airlines announced they are suspending Delhi-San Francisco and Mumbai-Newark flight routes as they are no longer fuel or time-efficient as Russian airspace is out of bounds. They will continue shorter Delhi-San Francisco slights. Air India is one of the few airlines that continues to utilize Russia’s airspace.

International Border Closures to Finally End, Complete Reopening on February 21st

Prime Minister Scott Morrison has just announced that international borders will reopen for all visa holders who have been fully vaccinated against COVID-19.

Australian borders have been slowly reopening since min December 2021, ensuring that family members of citizens, permanent residents and international students the first to return.

After new medical advice, Scott Morrison has said the new border rules would come into place on 21st February, “The condition is you must be double vaccinated to come to Australia,” he said.

Along with the reopening of Australian borders comes good news for the tourism sector since the past two years have been nothing but drought for the tourism businesses during the border closures.

“Over the next two weeks they’ll get the opportunity both for visitors to be coming and for them to be gearing up to welcome international visitors back to Australia,” Mr Morrison said.

Fully Vaccinated, Travel Easy

Since the borders are reopening this February 21st, the mandate has been to be fully vaccinated which means that you have successfully received two doses of the COVID-19 vaccination. Individuals who have not received two doses of COVID-19 vaccination will need to apply for an exemption to travel into Australia, “If you’re double vaccinated, we look forward to welcoming you back to Australia,” Morrison said during a media briefing.

The decision to relax the Australian Borders was taken as Australia has already been riddled by the new variant Omicron therefore the double vaccinated travellers do not pose extra risks.

Double vaccinated travellers still need to get a negative result on the PCR test three days before travel or perform a supervised Rapid Antigen test 24 hours before travel to ensure exemption from quarantine.

Western Australia is still abiding by the Covid zero strategy and is expected to keep in place the rule of 14 day quarantine and arrival caps which will prevent a large number of international tourists from entering the state.

Strict border rules and snap lockdowns have helped Australia keep coronavirus cases far lower than other comparable countries, in saying that cases have hit a record break height fuelled the new variant Omicron.
