Seasonal Considerations

India experiences diverse climatic conditions; hence, here are some tips for seasonal considerations while travelling to India:

The period from October to May offers pleasant weather across most parts of India. During these months, you can explore various historical sites and participate in festivals without battling extreme temperatures.

Dive Into Safety Tips

Safety is a top priority for any traveller, and understanding the specific considerations for a destination like India is crucial. Here are some detailed safety tips while travelling in India:

Before You Go:

Booking Flights

Booking flights with the best GDeals requires being a savvy traveller and knowing where to look and when to book. Here are some hacks:

  • Book in advance
  • Look for flexible dates or during off-peak hours
  • Book using incognito mode
  • Choose cheap flights from Australia to India with various deals

Visa and Insurance Essentials

Research your visa requirements based on the duration of your stay before booking flights from Adelaide to Delhi. Get comprehensive travel insurance plans. They help in covering medical emergencies, theft, and trip cancellations. Lastly, get digital and physical copies of your important documents, including visas, passports, and travel insurance.

Weather and Clothing

Pack wisely, as India has a diverse climate. Bring layers for varying temperatures.

Basic Hindi Phrases

Learn essential greetings, directions, and bargaining phrases (“Namaste,” “Shukriya,” “Kitna?”) to communicate effectively and connect with locals.

Look for Better Deals

It’s the leap year, folks! Do not miss out on grabbing leap year super sale discounts and G-deals when booking flights from Australia to India. Yes, you must take advantage of this!

Quick Tip:

Download offline maps and translation apps for situations without internet access.

On the Ground

From being aware of the traffic rules while renting vehicles to emergency preparedness, here are a few on-the-ground tips that you can follow while travelling in India:

Staying Safe in the Crowd

Avoid carrying a large amount of cash, especially in crowded places. Avoid scams and pickpockets. Keep your valuables in locked pockets and avoid displaying expensive gadgets publicly.

Responsible Money Exchange

Use ATMs cautiously and opt for licensed money changers. Additionally, consider prepaid travel cards for convenience and security. Moreover, carry a mix of cash and cards to avoid any last-minute hassle.

Solo Travel

While solo travelling is empowering, exercise caution, especially if travelling for the first time. Avoid walking alone at night. Moreover, use ride-sharing apps or book transportation in advance to avoid last-minute hassles. Use reliable transportation and stay connected with your family and friends by sharing your current location. Here is a rough list of some emergency contacts in India:

  • National Emergency Number – 112
  • Police – 100 or 112
  • Fire – 101
  • Ambulance – 102
  • Women Helpline – 1091

Lastly, if you are a woman traveller travelling alone, choose a reservation for women wherever possible.

One Caveat: It’s easier to get lost on signals in various remote places; hence, save some emergency numbers in your phone and take a local SIM for seamless communication.

On Health and Well-Being

Taking care of your health while travelling is crucial to ensure an enjoyable and stress-free journey. Here are some practical tips for the same:

Vaccinations

Consult a healthcare professional at least eight weeks before the trip. While no official vaccinations are mandatory for entry, consider getting immunised against diseases like:

  • Diphtheria
  • COVID
  • Tetanus
  • Hepatitis A and B
  • Polio
  • Typhoid

Lastly, Malaria precautions are also essential, depending on your destination.

Food & Water Safety

Opt for freshly cooked meals and avoid street food with questionable hygiene. Try local delicacies from reputable vendors. Moreover, drink only bottled or purified water. And yes, probiotics can help maintain gut health during your journey.

Quick Enlightenment: Pack a small medicine kit. Load it with essentials like hand sanitizer, anti-diarrheal medicine, and basic first aid supplies.

Responsible Travel Practices

India’s cultural diversity is both mesmerising and complex. To truly immerse yourself, understand the customs and traditions of the region you’ll visit.

Respecting Cultural Sites

Ah! Don’t compromise on this, given the ethical and religious sensitivity of the country. Here’s how you can blend into the culture:

Dress Code & Behaviour
India is home to various traditions and customs. Dress modestly, especially at religious site premises, and remove your shoes before entering temples or any place of worship.

Photography Etiquette

Seek permission before photographing people, especially in rural areas, to avoid intrusive photography. All you need to do is respect their privacy and engage in friendly conversations to capture genuine moments.

Physical Contact

Avoid hugging or touching strangers, as personal boundaries vary across cultures. A warm smile goes a long way.

Note: Adhere to the smoking and liquor consumption laws in public places.

Booking Hack: Whether you are booking flights from Melbourne to Bangalore or a return ticket, try to book it in advance to prevent any last-minute chaos.

Homestays & Local Businesses

Opt for homestays and locally-owned businesses over large chains to experience authentic culture first-hand and support local communities.

Responsible Tipping & Bargaining

Research fair tipping practices and bargain respectfully, avoiding exploitation. Also, try supporting local artisans by buying souvenirs directly from them.

Note: Pack reusable water bottles and shopping bags to avoid single-use plastics.

P.S. India awaits you with its vibrant colours, culture, and food. By incorporating the above tips, ensure the journey is safe and respectful, and leave a positive footprint.

Staying safe when travelling with family

It’s always a good idea to check the latest travel tips and advice when planning a trip with your family, now more than ever. Visiting home in India is not only for fun, but also reuniting with your beloved family members. Staying conscious of the latest restrictions and requirements for international travel is essential to keeping you and your loved ones safe and healthy. Find out the best ways to keep you and your family safe while travelling and protect your loved ones back home.

Covid-19 remains an enduring global health pandemic

Despite the rising numbers of fully-vaccinated citizens across the world, many countries are still suffering from sudden Covid-19 outbreaks. Whether travelling alone or with family, you should always be aware of the infection rates of Covid-19 in your destination and consider the implications this may have on you and your travel companions. Whether domestic or international, all travel carries a potential risk of being exposed to, spreading or contracting Covid-19, especially if you’re travelling to a high-risk destination. As a conscious traveller, it’s essential to be mindful of not only yours but your loved one’s health and should not make travel plans if any of your family members are at high risk of severe illness.

How you should prepare to travel safely as a family together

Before travelling to India, it’s vital to check all requirements that you and your family may need to fulfil. This can include travel restrictions, vaccination status, quarantining and Covid-19 testing requirements in both your local area and expected destinations you’re planning to visit. Before and during your trip it’s highly advised to check the local government and Ministry of Health websites to stay updated on the latest information and changes that may disrupt your travel plans. In addition, checking ahead on options for healthcare, transportation, stopovers, food and accommodation at your planned destination would further ensure your family’s comfort and wellbeing during your trip, and ensure your journey is as hassle-free as possible.

If you are travelling with your family, here are some additional steps you can take to ensure a smooth journey:

  • Make sure that you and your family are up-to-date with routine vaccination requirements and testings, including MMR vaccine, seasonal flu vaccines and RT-PCR tests before your departure
  • Ensure that you and your family members passports are up-to-date and at least valid for the next 6 months from the date you plan to return home
  • Be careful to bring enough medication for the entire journey for any family members who may have health issues
  • Select the safest mode of transportation in advance to mitigate the risk of exposure to Covid-19 and other illnesses and limiting exposure to crowded public places, as well as frequently sanitizing your hands and maintaining social distancing where possible
  • Avoid travel during the peak times and congested routes wherever possible
  • Be mindful to gather in ventilated, open spaces while visiting friends or family, even for mass gatherings including weddings, pooja ceremonies or family events
  • Wear a mask while travelling or visiting high-risk locations
  • Follow the local public health advice and monitor symptoms if you or your family members become unwell before travelling

Being a conscious traveller and practicing good hygiene ensures the safety of both your family and the general public, and helps minimise the risk of contracting and spreading the Covid-19 virus around you.

Departing from Australia

If you’re travelling from Australia to India, it’s important to understand the risk of contracting Covid-19 in your destination. Therefore, some travel insurers currently offer limited cover for Covid-19. However, all passengers (including children) travelling to India must submit the ’Air-Suvidha Self-Declaration Form’ and present a full vaccination certificate or negative Covid-19 (RT-PCR) test report prior to departure.

Departing from India

Since July, it is no longer required for international travellers to fill the Digital Passenger Declaration or Maritime Travel Declaration to enter Australia. Additionally, travellers are no longer required to provide their vaccination status to enter the country. However, depending on your transport providers and stopovers along the way, there may be additional protocols to follow and safety concerns, making it essential to check and confirm the local requirements of all your travel destinations in advance before arriving at check-in.

Over 15 years as your trustworthy travel partner, at Gaura Travel our primary goal is to reunite you with your family and loved ones and giving you a smooth and hassle-free journey to your dream destination.

See you on your next journey with us!

Festivals of the Season

Diwali is less than 100 days away, at Gaura Travel we celebrate India’s diverse religions and ethnic groups, where a vast number of local festivals are celebrated throughout the year. Each festival brings a unity of culture and celebration with festivities for families, relatives and friends to enjoy.

The next biggest festival of the season, Diwali, is celebrated nationwide in India on October 24th, 2022 and symbolises the triumph of good over evil and light over darkness.

Diwali – The festival of Lights

Diwali is a festival that symbolises the triumph of good over evil and is celebrated by many different religious groups in India, each with a unique interpretation. Hindus celebrate Diwali to celebrate the return of Rama to Ayodhya after defeating the evil king Ravana and the rebirth of goddess Lakshmi, whereas Jains celebrate and honour Lord Mahavira’s enlightenment. For the Sikh population, the festival is held to celebrate Guru Hargobind’s release from prison.

5-day celebration of this Holiday

This year, Diwali will fall on 24th October, with the 5-day celebration commencing on 22nd October with Dhanteras – the act of cleaning and purchasing gold, silver and other new items to decorate the house. For the second day, Choti Diwali, houses are decorated with diyas and candles, with families gathering to create rangolis. On the auspicious day of Diwali, extended families come together with their traditional attires and perform a ritual called ‘Lakshmi Puja’, afterwards celebrating with delicious food and lighting diyas together.

On the fourth day, Padwa, festivities are dedicated to celebrating the loving bond between husband and wife by exchanging gifts. On Bhai Duj, the fifth day, families get together to celebrate the special bond between brothers and sisters, with sisters tying a special bracelet called ‘rakhi’ around each brother’s wrists. In return, the brothers give gifts and sweets to their sisters and promise to protect them for life.

Diwali in Australia

Diwali or Deepavali is the most important occasion for the Indian community in Australia. To Hindus, this is a symbol of hope, harmony, joy and renewed togetherness of life. The Hindu Council of Australia is organising an array of cultural events to be held at Martin Place, Parramatta Park and other venues around Sydney by cooperating with the local Indian communities. These events will not only represent religious significance, but also have something to offer for attendees of all ages, from exciting Bollywood recitals, traditional foods and music, henna artworks and more. Entrance to many of the fair’s cultural events is free, and open to all Australians to experience the rich multicultural traditions, cuisines, music and much more.

With joy and laughter in the air, there’s no better time to travel to India and celebrate this auspicious festival with your loved ones. Find out more about our special flight offers to India during the festival season here:

India is flattening the curve

Cases are decreasing
Since India’s 3rd COVID-19 wave peak in January 2022, the total weekly cases are on a steady decline. The record low of 10,000 weekly cases has been the first since April 2020. The pandemic is currently at its lowest point in nearly two years since the initial lockdown.

Skies reopen, Indians flock to airlines desks

Many flights, even more memories!
International flights will be resuming after a two-year gap. From Sunday 27th March, over 3,249 weekly flights will be operating from India. As the bubble systems are easing for travel destinations, there is an increase in connecting flights, due to the increase, airfares will decrease to a manageable price for example Gaura Travel currently has an offer from India to Australia from just $899 – to book your flights visit Gaura Travel Flights. IndiGo will have the highest international departures on a standalone basis among all airlines, operating 505 weekly flights.

“Very important day’ said Civil Aviation Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia as the airline industry returns to normalcy. An important day not just for the aviation companies but also for the common man. Many individuals have been separated from loved ones due to the inability to travel overseas. The relaxation of restrictions is a piece of welcomed news for everyone as airline companies resume to full capacity from the 27th of March.

Short and sweet
As the restrictions are easing, foreign airlines will be able to offer one-stop layovers for travellers flying from India to the rest of the world. Shorter travel times indicate lesser travel fares, offering an unmissable opportunity for everyone to travel. Though air ticket prices will not lower to pre-COVID-19 costs, they will remain at a comfortable median.

Hello World! India is back in the game
Multiple airlines have applied for approval of their international schedules for this summer which will be effective from the 27th of March to 29th October. Senior DGGA Official said “A total of 1,466 departures per week by six Indian carries have been approved to 43 destinations in 27 countries” offering an endless selection of destinations for travellers to choose from. After a long 2-year gap between pre and post COVID-19 individuals and families are eager to reunite with their loved ones.

Indira Gandhi International Airport is the country’s largest airport, located in the national capital of India is set to witness a significant increase in departures in the first week of April. As Indian carriers are prepared for normal international flights, various foreign airlines, including Emirates, Virgin Atlantic, and LOT Polish have announced their plans to offer flights to and from India.

India is back in the airline game, pushing full steam ahead to get travellers to their destinations and welcome tourists. Sunday 27th of March signifies a monumental day as airlines return to normalcy and resume overseas flights.

Australia will recognize higher education degrees completed in India.

The partnership between India and Australia is set to grow
It appears as though the world is returning to some sort of normalcy after the pandemic, on the 22nd March 2022, Australian Prime Minister Scott Morrison and his Indian counterpart Narendra Modi took part in a virtual meeting to discuss the mutual growth for the two countries as Australia is set to invest over $200 million to bump up the economic relations with India. This investment will include partnerships in education, research, green steel, and space.

One of the prominent issues which take Indian international students by halt is the official recognition of their higher education qualification. Proving it tedious to even repeat a few classes to level up to Australia’s education grade. Australia recognizing degrees completed in India exhibits that Indian students continue to be a vital part of Australia’s community. This new advancement will allow international students to use their completed Indian degrees in Australia, giving them a great opportunity to travel to Australia.

Students will be able to travel between Australia and India with no limitations on validating their overseas qualifications.

The two-way degree recognition arrangement truly eases the transition process for students wanting to continue studying in India or Australia, allowing them mobility, web, and in-person blended learning. Coming as a much-needed bonus for international students, ‘This is very important for us because of the number of Indian students in Australia. Mutual recognitions mean you can do a degree in Australia, and it’ll be recognized in India as well.’ Says Mr. Harsh V Shringla, India’s Foreign Secretary.

The new arrangements promise consistent career growth for all Indian International students as there are plenty of career paths in Australia, laying the groundwork for those who wish to study overseas. It is also a great head start for students to plan their travel to Australia or India.

The task force will deliver a mechanism for education qualification recognition between India and Australia by the end of the year, with implementation taking place in 2023.

Opportunity to travel & an economic partnership
Australia’s tourism industry is bound to gain some serious traction from India in the following years due to the investment. Benefiting from investment, international students and travellers will be greeted with much more opportunity than ever. Australia and India are bridging the gap in more than you think, the social and economic growth will grant a bright future for individuals wanting to travel. The multi-million-dollar investment proves to be a substantial growth for the tourism industry.

As the solidarity between the two countries serves as a gateway for more travel opportunities. Economic growth is a leeway to support jobs and business in both countries. The support for jobs and businesses means that there is a mutual connection for individuals from India and Australia.

Final Boarding Call For December

Omicron classified as a ‘super mild’ variant

With weeks to go for Christmas and the New Year, travellers and families are scrambling to secure last minute tickets to be with their loved ones and explore the wonders of India.

This is not the time to ‘umm’ and ‘aah’. This is the time to grab these seats before someone else does. We have a number of Charter Flights operating in December, so jump on board!

Book with us and travel to India in December and make up for all that lost time.

The December Effect

There is something about December and travelling to India. There is no better way to mark the end of the year than to spend time with loved ones back home, especially when you don’t have to worry about quarantine or applying for exemptions.

Many families in Australia know that this is the time of the year when things wind down. Work, business and the hectic lives we lead…they all pause for a few weeks before kicking off again in the new year.

Just as we did when all borders were closed, this time as well, we have launched a BRAND NEW series of CHARTER FLIGHTS from Australia to India across the following dates:

  • Friday, 17 December
  • Sunday, 19 December
  • Monday, 20 December
  • Friday, 24 December

Gaura Travel will also directly operate charter flights from India to Australia for the following dates:

  • Thursday, 16 December
  • Saturday, 18 December
  • Sunday, 19 December
  • Thursday, 23 December

In other words this time of the year becomes the perfect time to fly to India and catch-up with those who have missed you and have hoped for you to be able to make it back home.

And then of course there are those who have had to put their plans of holidaying in India on the backburner. But now even they can bring their great Indian vacation dream back to life.

So hurry, book your seats before it all sells out.

The Omicron effect (or the lack of)

As per South African reports, coronavirus experts in the country are excited to see that the new Omicron variant might be less damaging than the Delta variant.

The Omicron variant is seen to be much milder and is seen to be less lethal in its impact on humans. This means that the world only must cope with a mutant that is showing signs of being far less threatening.

Scott Morrison, the Prime Minister of Australia has already categorically denied the possibility of further lockdowns and has instead urged state leaders to continue on with their reopening plans.

Medical professionals do believe that most Covid vaccines, including the Pfizer, Moderna and AstraZeneca jabs, are designed to protect against variants to a certain degree, similar to how they protected against previous variants (Delta, Alpha etc.)

The message is clear – yes, we have a new variant but increased knowledge about its behaviours and keeping the faith in the vaccination rollout and the overall strategy will help us continue with our travel plans with more reassurance on our safety.

Hey travellers, we have dealt with ‘bigger and badder’ villains more effectively; let us not worry about the sidekicks.

Make this a December to Remember

Flights are a ‘go’ and they will take off as planned. But we hope they do so with you on it!

So, call us and book your seats before we run out of them!

We can guarantee you this: every other person on the plane will be vaccinated and will have just returned a negative COVID test. Is that the safest place to be at right now? You bet!

You can reach our knowledgeable team 24/7. We look forward to talking soon!

Light up your travel plans this Diwali

Travel with us this Diwali and you can get up to $500 off

The winds of freedom are blowing and the entire nation is looking forward to travelling without the shackles of restrictions. Well, almost.

And the timing couldn’t be better. Around this time of the year, the Indian community goes into a state of festive overdrive. Through Navratri, Milad Un-Nabi, Dussehra and more, one can only imagine the volume of prayers and vibes that would have sent back into the Universe.

Finally, the Universe seems to have smiled.

A ‘$500’ gift from the Gaura Travel team

With the festival of lights, Diwali around the corner, brightness and happiness has returned in to many households. Many families now know that travelling to and from Australia is at its most relaxed since the pandemic first struck.

As if our $899 fares weren’t low enough already, we want to give our valued travellers more.

For the next ten days, Gaura Travel invites travellers to take part in a fun ‘Spin the Wheel’ activity on the website. And who knows, you might be one of many who can get up to $500 off your fare to India.

This is our way of sharing with you as you prepare to welcome the new rules of freedom (or should we say, lack of rules!).

What does this newfound freedom look like?

586 days. And NOT counting.

That’s right. It has been 586 days since Australia made it necessary for Australian travellers to apply for an exemption to leave Australia. Approval rates were low and many travellers found themselves trapped under the debris of rules and regulations, unable to be there for loved ones in India.

The toll on families and the mental health of the country, and even the world, was hanging by a bare thread. Think famine and then think that first drop of rain. That is what the country is experiencing right now.

Finally, the tables are turning and the human race finally stands a chance against the unseen villains of the virus race. Or at least it certainly feels like that.

Now Australian citizens and permanent residents across the entire country can leave the country without having to apply for exemptions.

Freedom(ish) at midnight.

On November 1 st, 2021, travellers with NSW as the destination, will awaken to newfound freedom. Freedom from hotel quarantine and COVID 19 testing. The only real condition is that travellers must be fully vaccinated. However, it is very important to note that the vaccine itself has to be approved by Australia’s TGA (Therapeutic Goods Administration).

At this stage, India’s Covishield vaccine has been fully approved by the TGA. If your vaccine is not approved by the TGA, mandatory 14-day hotel quarantine conditions will still apply.

If you are looking to travel from India, maybe make it in time to celebrate Diwali with the family or for any reason are planning to travel to Sydney, get on to it immediately.

As always, speak to us if you have any questions.

Interstate Travel from Sydney

Sydney will be a designated ‘orange zone from November 1 which means that fully vaccinated travellers can travel into Victoria with a valid travel permit.

For other states, interstate travellers might still be subject to restrictions and quarantine arrangements of their home state if they intend to head back there.

500 reasons to celebrate!

Don’t forget: for the next ten days, Gaura Travel invites travellers to take part in a fun ‘Spin the Wheel’ activity on the website. And who knows, you might be one of many who can get up to $500 off your fare to India.

We have a large number of flight options to multiple destinations in India with fares as low as $899. Get on that phone, or hit our website and secure your seat.

Enjoy the freedom, you deserve it.

Why you need a new ‘return booking’ strategy

Over the many decades that we have all been travelling, it has almost always been a case of booking a return fare, as opposed to buying two single fares simply because a ‘bundle’ has always been cheaper than the individual parts.

But the last two years have proved that our decades of travelling experience count for nothing.

The Australian Government has announced its imminent plans to open international borders, resulting in a flood of eager travellers who are ready to book and ready to fly.

But a word of caution. Actually, a few words of caution. Choosing the ‘return bundle’ is no longer   the best option. Not right now anyway.

Making any predictions into the future is a risky proposition, especially in the world of travel. But we can explain what all of this means for you in the present-day scenario with a great deal of certainty.

Booking a flight OUT of Australia to India, is by far the cheapest option. As you are aware, airfares are a complex function of several variables, and at present the rates will be low.

But what about the return leg? As things stand, flying back into Australia is an expensive option.

Again, there is very little travel agencies like us can do about it, owing to numerous external factors out of anyone’s control.

I haven’t seen my family in years

We hear you. Which is why we recommend the following:

If you are travelling to India to visit family and friends, we suggest you wait until the return fares become normalised and then book your way back to Australia.

As our customers, you will be the first to know of the changes in the return fares.

Over the last two years, numerous families have been separated geographically. Let us put an end to all the waiting, to all the ‘I miss you’ messages, to the yearning thoughts about loved ones – let us put you on a flight to the country that continues to live on in your heart.

But if you don’t have to rush back to Australia, then we suggest, you wait and watch. While none of us have a crystal ball to read the future, what we know is that as both India and Australia continue to march towards their vaccination targets, the restrictions on the number of passengers will change, along with a few other factors.

It will only become easier to book a cost-efficient journey back to Australia.

So, what should be my new travel strategy?

Book a one-way ticket to wherever home is and we will get you there. Re-unite with your family, celebrate all the birthdays you missed, fill your heart with the smells and flavours of India and wait….until the time is right to book your return flight.

If in doubt, please speak to our friendly staff. We have spoken to thousands of passengers, and we know what you need to have a beautiful trip to India…and back.

INDIA no longer in the bracket of ‘high risk’ for Australia, travel restrictions are now back to the worldwide settings.

We have another reason to rejoice now! Another reason to celebrate! On August 10th, the Australian government removed India from its list of “high risk” countries and lifted additional restrictions on outgoing and incoming travel from the country. This step has been taken due to the dramatic decline in daily COVID cases in the country.

This comes as a great news and a breather for us as we proceed in our aim to reunite you with your loved ones.

The number of overseas acquired cases with a country of acquisition of India has stayed far below thresholds of concern since the resumption of government sponsored repatriation flights from India on 15 May 2021, says a federal Department of Health spokesperson.

A halt in flights from India, as well as improved pre-departure arrangements, allowed the number of cases from that country to be reduced to a manageable level. Well, this is great news! We are back in the safe bracket.

Impact on temporary visa holders stuck in India

Until 9 August, people looking for an exemption for travel to or from India could only be permitted in limited situations due to the unprecedented spread of COVID-19.

However, as the number of new cases in India decreases, the Australian government has broadened the exemption rules to accommodate more reasons for travel to and from India. This has provided much-needed relief to Australian citizens and permanent residents seeking outward travel exemptions, as well as temporary visa holders stranded in India and yearning to come home.

The Plan Ahead

More than 10,000 people are stuck in India, who are wanting to get back to the land down under. This brings a ray of hope, particularly for families who have been separated from their loved ones for long. The temporary residents are hoping this development works in favour of them and improves their chances at getting inward travel exemptions, so they can continue the lives that they had painstakingly built in Australia.

Well, where there is a will, there is a way. We are here to get you a step closer to your destination be it Australia to India, or India to Australia!

Sit back and Relax. We are here to be your best way home.

Essential Travel Permitted

After months of dormancy due to the raging pandemic, Australia is gearing up for a return to small normalcy with borders reopening to India and permitting essential travel.

Australia opened its borders to India on 15th May, and gave a green signal for the travel operations between India and Australia to resume. This comes as good news to more than 11,000 Australians who are stuck in India and wish to travel back to Australia.

Australian citizens have been grieving the loss of loved ones in India because of border restrictions preventing travel on compassionate grounds under any circumstances. However, with the decline in the COVID-19 cases in India, Australia has now allowed citizens to travel to India for compassionate and care giving reasons.

So if you are in limbo and not sure whether you can travel to India to provide care to your family, the answer is YES!

Who can travel to India from Australia?

Based on current health advice, individuals seeking an exemption to travel from Australia to India will only be approved for the following limited circumstances:

  1. Critical workers providing assistance to India’s COVID-19 response.
  2. People travelling in Australia’s national interest.
  3. People seeking urgent medical treatment for a critical illness that cannot be treated in Australia.
  4. People travelling due to the death or funeral of a close family member.
  5. People visiting a close family member who is critically ill.
  6. People seeking to travel to India to escort an Australian citizen or permanent resident minor back to Australia.

Gaura Travel resumes flights from India to Australia

Flights from India to Australia are open and operating normally

National Cabinet of Australia recently announced a temporary reduction to the number of incoming flights from India to Australia, amid a surge in the number of COVID-19 cases in India.

This news comes as India overtook Brazil with the highest number of COVID-19 cases recorded in a day. India has seen more than 314,000 cases in the past 24 hours.

There are more than 34,000 Australians overseas, wanting to come back including from India. So, what changes will be made now? How is it affecting the flights from India to Australia?

Here’s what you need to know.

What is changing?

Prime Minister Scott Morrison announced that chartered and direct flights from India would be cut by 30 per cent and departures to India would be limited in the following months. The inbound flights would be operating normally, however only the capacity will be reduced.

India has been highlighted in the “high-risk’ countries, thus it becomes extremely crucial for Australia to take this step in order to combat the alarming situation.

Department of home affairs also added, “Australian government had a humanitarian need to help the returning travellers, but the ongoing repatriation effort needed to be weighed up with the safety of Australian citizens”.

The plunge in the capacity of flights would apply to both the government-organised repatriation flights and commercial flights into Sydney.

What are the new rules?

Australia will change testing requirements for people returning from high- risk countries overseas. Passengers travelling from India to Australia will need to have a PCR coronavirus test 72 hours before leaving.

Travellers need to hold a negative virus test before boarding a flight and will be tested twice in hotel quarantine for 14 days. This comes as an addition to other testing rules, including by the airlines.

Our flights from India to Australia will operate normally, and there will be an opportunity for people in India to travel back to Australia in a controlled and safe manner.

What will happen to Australians currently in India?

If you’re wondering you will be eligible to travel to Australia or no then the answer is, Yes. People stuck in India, will still be allowed to enter Australia. Flights to Australia will also be operating normally, but with a 30 per cent decrease in the frequency. This is no way affects our charter flights running from India to Australia. Our flights will be operational as per the confirmed dates and all protocols will be followed as usual.

Our flights from India to Australia

We have our direct charter flights operating from India to Australia on 14th May. The flights will be running from all major cities in India to Perth and Adelaide. The flight has a duration of 17 hours including the transit in Malaysia. All flights will be running as scheduled with no changes in the itinerary.

How to book my ticket to Australia?

The flight operations to India from all the major cities of Australia in May will continue as per the schedule.  However, at the moment the only people eligible to Travel are:

  • Australia passport Holders
  • Indian Passport holders with Permanent Residency
  • People who hold an exemption from Australian Border Forces to travel to Australia.

If you are eligible to travel to Australia you can check dates available and book your ticket here: Charter Flights from India to Australia.

Can I travel from Australia to India?

Yes, you can travel from Australia to India. There are exemptions being given to travellers who want to travel to India. However, similar to the reduction in capacity of incoming passengers, the granting of exemptions will be tightened.

According to the Prime Minister, the border force will ensure travel exemptions are granted to people who are in very urgent circumstances. Exemptions will still be given to people travelling to India, however the state of urgency will be prioritised.

We are here with you!

Rain or shine, day or night we are here to provide you with a seamless travel experience no matter what. We took the matters into our own hands when no commercial flights were operating to India, and now we will do whatever it takes to connect you back with the land down under. All rules and protocols will be followed as usual and strict measures will be taken to ensure a safe travel.

100 Charter Flights And Many More!

Today we operated our 100th charter flight!

In the month of March 2020, under great adversity, we summoned the will and along with the support and blessings of some great well-wishers, we operated our first charter flight.

We weren’t so sure back then how many we would fly. Hey, a part of us wasn’t even sure if we’d have another plane in the air again!

But we persevered. Our backs were against the wall, but we made room for courage. We banked upon the goodwill of our passengers and lone behold, today we flew our 100th charter flight!

We can hardly believe that we actually scored a century of charters and we have you, our valued passengers to thank.

We thank you for allowing us to bring you closer to your loved ones and we’re grateful for the faith you’ve placed in us.

Honourable Stories From Our ‘Charter Chapter’

In February 2021, we flew our 10,00oth passenger through our charter planes.

We still remember talking to our 10,00oth passenger at the airport just as he was about to board the plane. We offered him a business class ticket and the joy he expressed remains indescribable.

Since then we’ve flown well over 15,000 passengers and continue to reunite families and loved ones.

Bigger and Bigger Goals

Over the years, we have accomplished all of the goals we have set for Gaura Travel. We’re astounded by the progress we’ve made so far and how many families and loved ones we’ve reunited.

During 2020, we’ve pushed ourselves to set bigger and bigger goals, ultimately offering the best service possible.

Our commitment to you will always remain the same.

Want to travel, but haven’t booked you flights?

We still have a few charter flights in operation, flying through Singapore. But we are also taking bookings for some commercial flights through other airlines in the new year!
